Chilli Fest Belfast 2009

So the Chilli Fest Belfast is back for another year of fun, food and entertainment for all. Run under the umbrella of the 11th Open House Festival at the Cathedral Quarter Belfast, this years line-up promises to be a start studded affair. All we need now is for the rain to stay away in order to let everyone come out an play. If you plan on doing a little sampling of  food during the Fiery Food Fair, I would strongly advise that you leave a toilet roll in your fridge before leaving as it can both sooth a sore head on your return and give you a much welcome relief should you need to visit the loo!

Don’t forget that the amazing Jackson Cage will be playing on the Saturday night and while this is a paid event, many of the other gigs (in particular the Friday night) are free, so gather your family and come down to Belfast.

For more details on the main events, check out the 11th Open House Festival Website.

Jackson Cage Rock Belfast Tall Ships

August 19th, 2009

Saturday 15th August 2009 will definitely go down as a night to remember. As host to the Tall Ships, the atmosphere in Belfast was already at fever pitch with lots of street entertainment, stalls, fund for all the family and then to top it all the magnificent Jasckon Cage graced the stage at Clarendon Quay to play an amazing set.

This highly talented band from Northern Ireland have matured incredibly since I last saw them featured on UTV Live at the Limelight. They were extremely well rehearsed and their music rocked the crowd who enjoyed every chord and lyric from this incredible group.

A first for the band was a requested an completly deserved encore and as management of the Tall Ships event ran round to make sure they could play one more song before the fireworks light up the night sky, the crowd continued to chant for more.

Their next gigs are at the City of Song Festival in Derry on 25th September and then the ChilliFest Belfast on 26th. For more details, checkout their website, Facebook, Bebo, MySpace or Twitter links.

A trip to Belfast is not complete without taking a tour to see the many murals on offer across the city. from the nationalist Falls Road to the Loyalist Shankill Road and every area in between, the city seems to have every gable end and prominent wall transformed by a mural.

The Falls Road also boasts what is known as the International Peace Wall with depictions of George W. Bush’s Iraqi War, the Arab-Israeli Conflict, Spanish Civil War and other global campaigns, past and present.

many locals have taken advantage of the change from conflict to peace and now offer tours round these sites to see and be pictured in front of these murals. generally your tour guide is full of strories, jokes and craic whcih make the visit that little bit more enjoyable. And as we have stated in our many other posts, you will find an abundance of great pubs and restaurants to unwind after a long day of treking and photographing.

Some of the companies offering tours of the Murals include:
